When it gets really cold he'll go into a full body padded zip up suit (we made sure to get one with detachable feet). He also gets a fluffy lap blanket in the stroller if needed. Ground Roosting If only ground brush is available, sparrows and other ground feeding birds may choose that, but winter predators such as fishers, coyotes, and even squirrels can snatch low roosting sleeping birds at night. Too close to the ground, in niches of a log pile or a downed tree, and a bird can fall prey to rats and other rodents when taking advantage of what might seem to be a warm and otherwise secure chamber covered in snow.
Of course, if you have the money and want the best studdable tires money can buy, then it would be a good idea to purchase a set made by people who are very familiar with snow. It's generally acknowledged that Swedish studdable tires are at the top of the line, exemplified by the excellent Nokian Hakkapellitta 5. These tires have tenacious grip in icy conditions, but studding them is illegal in some states. Check your local laws for compliance.

Now on to a related subject regarding homemade base mixes. I really like fishing with bait base mixes in various more conventional or more unusual forms. Stick mixes are just one example where you can make up your own boilie base mix and apply it or adapt it for use in winter.
If you plan to access the backcountry on Mount Hood, you will need a permit. In the Mount Hood Wilderness, a wilderness permit must be completed from May through October.
