| Introduce your second graders to poetry, and create some simple snowflake themed classroom decorations, by composing acrostic poems. Type the word "SNOWFLAKE" vertically down a page, and create one copy for every student. Also copy this form onto an overhead transparency so that you can demonstrate the process for your students.

Striped bass seek out solid structures to trap schools of bait fish, and you can usually find them around flooded islands, weedy shoals, sand bars and dead end sloughs. Tides play a significant role in this because they push bait fish up against the structures that stripers use to hunt. Outgoing tide produces better fishing than incoming tide, according to Delta fisherman Alan Fong, because the current is stronger. Look for flocks of seagulls too. They feed at the surface on the same bait schools that stripers feed on from below.

Of course it wasn't so obvious back then, and in fact, Washington should not have been elected to be the leader of anything, let alone an entire army. Braddock's defeat was just one of Washington's many, many defeats. Fort Necessity, for example, which Washington set up and then almost immediately had to surrender after a brief battle. That does not make for a shining military history.
