The Essex Street Market (120 Essex St., between Rivington and Delancey streets) is another good option. The market specializes in upper end culinary products, including gourmet cheeses, premium cuts of meat, and fresh fish. They also sell general grocery items, but operate primarily as a public market that consists of a good number of smaller merchants.
