Cashmere is combed from the underbelly of the Capra Hircus goat, which settle in China, Mongolia, Afghanistan and Iran. The top quality cashmere comes from China, although typical fibers from Mongolia and Afghanistan tend to be coarser and darker. Cashmere undergoes an extensive process before it ends up as a jumper, scarf or other luxury piece. First, the coarse, oily outer hair is eliminated by a process called dehairing. The line is then colored before being spun, knitted, washed and finished ready for production.
