| I considered Internet hunting Tuesday while Sen. Ben Cardin, a Maryland Democrat, introduced the ¡°Newspaper Revitalization Take action, ¡± which would relieve the tax burden on newspapers that operate as non-profit organizations. (You can read the entire text here.) Sure, newspapers could use several hefty revitalization, but this earnest bit of legislation addresses a societal problem that would not exist. The other thing to know about this bill is that it will probably languish and die while in the Senate Finance Committee. But it¡¯s still well worth discussing because, despite the flaws known here - and throughout similarly critical posts by Tim Windsor, Rick Edmonds, Steve Yelvington, and Jeff Jarvis - the particular Newspaper Revitalization Act touches on some crucial inquiries around non-profit news which better legislation could address.
