Here it is fall and the garden is ready to snooze. Hold it, there is more work to be completed. Some mulching and some pruning. Fall is a good time for many reasons. It increases the water capacity and nutrient holding capacity of the soil. It assists in making minerals available for plants. This will shred the material into tiny pieces, and it can be left on as a top dressing. Put on two or three inches. Mulching is one of these chores, particularly if you have put new perennials to the garden this fall. To mulch or not to mulch is highly talked about. Many experts claim that if you mulch too soon, it will cause new growth and give the plant a falsified view of the true temperatures. Other people say mulching is essential to ensure tenderness, and new perennials are provided a good foundation in which to root. One thing is for certain, just add mulch after you have cleared away any unwanted waste from the base of the plant. If you plant perennials this fall without mulching, the bald soil will thaw during the day and freeze at night, producing movement that can heave small plants up out of the soil. The crown of the plant will be dried out and either be injured or die over the winter.
Think of it this way. Having a better grip and more control in, for example, the Toyota Prius, might help you keep that client or have a more productive day it might help you avoid winter accidents. Just the insurance deductible for one minor fender bender could cost you more than that set of winter tires.

2. It is Not so Hot. This is an advantage when considering our human needs. With the cooler temperatures there's less drudging through the humidity and haze, drenched with our own sweat and irritated because there never seems to be enough liquid to quench our thirst. The cooler winter temperatures are more comfortable for everyone. The animals, the people and the restrooms aren't as stinky in the winter as they are under the summer's baking sun. What many of us forget, however, is that many of the animals, with their thick fur coats, are suffering from the heat just as much or more than we are in the summertime too. Their attempts to remain cool often involve hiding in their darkened shelters, which is fine for temperature control, but allows for less than optimal viewing by park visitors. In the winter, the animals come out to frolic and play.
Toy breeds also have their advantages of course. Picking them up is very easy when they are injured, to take out of a situation, and to walk around in stores that let you do that. Travelling with small breed dogs is much easier on just about any level. Feeding smaller breed dogs is obviously cheaper. The vaccination and other such health expenses (besides surgery as toy breeds actually need specialists sometimes) are cheaper. Exercising a smaller breed dog is easier.
