| I've never trusted Madden's forecasts, they are far to vague and predictable. Mark Vogan has some interesting ideas, and given that he's not only an amateur, we can't blame him for getting everything wrong, but his forecast for last winter was a bit OTT if you ask me. He forecasted a warmer than average summer apparently, so that isn't looking great at the moment. Still, he is far more believable in my opinion than Madden, and unlike Madden, he is honest when he gets thinks wrong, and doesn't squirm and twist his forecasts to make them appear correct.
According to NOAA scientists, El Ni conditions are emerging in the Pacific and are expected to last through the 2009 10 winter. It is still too early to tell the severity of this year El Ni with computer model forecasts ranging from relatively weak to strong intensity. But, given El Ni tremendous capacity for influencing weather worldwide and thus, cost drivers for business it worth monitoring the situation and taking some precautionary measures.
