Butterfly bush, or Buddleia davidii, is a vigorous, cold hardy deciduous shrub most appreciated for large, fragrant flowers that keep blooming all summer long a steady draw for butterflies, bees and other nectar feeders. Its large size up to 8 to 10 feet tall also offers instant shade and seasonal privacy. Unless you live in zones 5 or 6, the ideal time for annual pruning is late winter or early spring just as new growth begins because that's the ideal time to stimulate new growth. In zones 5 and 6, where branches die back due to cold temperatures and plants go dormant, remove winter killed branches after frost.

Do your engine a favor and give it a fresh oil and filter change in the fall. Even if you didn't reach a 3000 miles change interval over the summer, that doesn't mean there isn't water condensation and contaminants in the crankcase. This isn't the time to be cheap, so spring for some fresh oil! After changing the oil and filter while you're already all dirty, go ahead and grease the chassis and be done with it.
