Nicaragua is known for great surf. In the north there is the heavy, barreling beach break known as Chancletas, or Thunderbomb. Much like zicatela, bring an extra board because it will snap yours if you are unlucky. Next is Puerto Sandino, or Freight Trains, my favorite spot in Nica. Three breaks, a big, fun left reef break, a consistent reef/beach break that goes both ways and a left point break. It kind of off the radar so you won have to battle as many crowds. Down the coast is Popoyo, famous for a number of breaks and then San Juan del Sur, known for being offshore all day thanks the lake Nicaragua to its east.
