| Of course, other people are interested in the beginning of winter because of the special astronomy features of the day. The Winter Solstice 2010 is even more significant because it is a total lunar eclipse, which is incredibly unusual in fact the last one was in 1638. in the morning, and you should be able to see it if you are lucky enough to have clear skies. It is certainly worth seeing because it is no doubt a once in a lifetime event. Even more amazingly, the Ursid meteor shower will take place tomorrow night as well. It is a prime sky gazing night.

Fontana Lake, contained by the tallest dam east of the Rocky Mountains, stretches 29 miles in the Great Smoky Mountains. Forest Service or the National Park Service, promising an undeveloped shoreline. Five public boat launches and a handful of commercial marinas provide access to the lake for paddlers. The long distance Appalachian Trail crosses the dam.
